| Welcome to my product review page! Every time I open a new pony or playset, I start picking out good and bad points, and decided to share them. Information provided in the product reviews are strictly my own personal observations and thoughts, and are geared not just toward the collector aspect of the items, but to the practical playwear hardiness as well. Agree or disagree at your own risk. ;) |
Comet Tail pony:
Comet Tail is a gorgeous pony, but I have some concerns about the yellow paint on her feet. Yellow pigment is notoriously hard to get good coverage with (it has a tendency to let stuff underneath, pencil lines, background colors, ect.. show through) and it seems to me that Hasbro went quite thick with the yellow paint to get it to cover over the orange. When I opened her package there was a faint paint odor and the yellow seems slightly tacky. You can see in the picture how the yellow paint welled up in the stamped lettering on her sole. I wonder if the yellow paint will stick to other surfaces much the same way the thicker paint on some playsets sticks to pony plastic?
I opened Daisy Paisley today, and she also had the tackyness, odor and puddling to her gradient paint as well. |
Ballet with Dance Slippers and Dance Around playset:
Right out of the box I started have problems and doubts about the longevity of the ballet slippers these girls come with. Aside from the whole "moon boots" look, the thin straps are very easily bent, and over time, repeated bending and squashing will most likely snap the loose ends off where the laces cross. The crowns and bouquets in this set are made of a harder plastic than previous tiaras, making them much more prone to permanent creases and snapping. Even a slight bend will produce white "stress" marks in the plastic. The prongs on the bouquets will be very prone to this, I think. I wouldn't play too rough or accidentally step on them if I where you.

Sharing Tea with Tira-Mi-Su and Mochanut playset: Much like the other sisters set, this playset has the harder plastic crowns (see above). This set also comes with two very small spoons. I see these become harder to find years down the line as they are very easy to lose. |
Lily Lightly light-up pony:
Lily Lightly has a hard plastic body. It bothered me at first, but I'm over that now. I originally thought the vinyl fabric eyelashes would be less than durable, but they seem solidly imbedded into the eyes. Short of someone taking a scissors to them, they should stand the test of time decently. Her dress is not fully removable, as it is sewn down in several spots and the wiring for the LED's keep the dress are wired to her body at the base of her neck. While I'm sure Hasbro though of this already and (hopefully) tested to see that is isn't possible, one of my first reactions was that anyone not realizing this could potentially rip the wiring out of the dress with a good hard yank trying to get the dress off the pony. I wasn't going to test that theory myself... but it did cross my mind. She also comes with an exclusive brush, shaped like a star-topped magic wand. The bristle-pegs of the brush are cut straight off, and not rounded at the ends like the standard pony brush's, which could potentially be harsher on the pony's hair if used. I also found it amusing that the pony's name was wrong on the instruction sheet that was included. |
Ponyville (mini) playsets - in general:
This is just a general statement about most of the Ponyville mini playsets I've picked up so far. I can sum their accessories up in just two words: Easily Lost. The pic shows a size comparison to a standard size G3 brush. Keep a close eye on your mini sets parts, because these are going to be dropped down heater vents, sucked up in vaccuums, and eaten by the dog at every turn. My prediction is that complete, loose sets of these will be hard to find in the future due to the part's tiny nature.

Love-a-Belle:
I bet is that the thin heart-shaped disks of plastic that make up her symbol will be easily ripped and torn under rough play conditions. At the very least they will be prone to creasing if she is casually tossed into a jumbled up toy box.

Candy Heart:
Candy Heart's necklace seems a bit fragile It's thin plastic will make it easily bent, if not snapped apart.
|
StarCatcher:
StarCatcher's fabric wings come apart at the seams. This is something I've heard from a few collectors. If this is happening to collector's gently handled displays, than what's the state of the StarCatcher's out there being played with by children? See for yourself. This is a pic I took of my niece's (age 4) pegasus after about 6 months of regular playwear, which was like new when I gave it to her. Hard to find to begin with due to a rather limited release, increasing popularity due to being a main character in the G3 MLP universe and the fragileness of her wings will make Starcatcher hard to find in good condition secondhand.
